March 2, 1959 Karene to Zelda

dearest Daughter:
How are you this 'blue' Monday? And the sky here this early morning is a beautiful blue, with a sliver of a moon and some bright stars shining. It is rather chilly.
March came in like a lion-it snowed some, the wind really whooped it up for awhile and it rained a little, then it cleared up and the sun came out for a little while and was cold last nite.
There was a Chinook Saturday and it really took the snow. So, you can imagine what we have now. It is really dirty.
Let's see now-I told you we went to the game Thursday nite, didn't I? Then we decided we wouldn't try to go down Friday nite, as our team played at 7:30. But when Dad came in at noon, we talked ourselves into it. So, the poor cows didn't know what it was all about at four o'clock.
Barry took our car and left at six, and took the team. We went with Tom and Lillian at 6:20. What a game-honestly! And what a noise we Missionites make. One of the referees said he'd never heard such a noise we Missionites make. One of the referees said he'd never heard such a noise. Our team played Simms, they had beat Helena the nite before. Barry felt much better and the five of them played the game.
Barry, Jay, Marty, Gary,& Dave. Gary was hi point man, Jay and Barry and Marty. Dave played good ball but he didn't make such as good scoring as usual. But we came out 8 points ahead. We had a good crowd down there. Stevensville played Anaconda at 9:30. Anaconda really have a ball club-man, they know how to handle that ball. And they are all husky fellows-we think they are fudging on their ages on some-we think. But Stevensville made a good showing against them-being the poorer team in our Stake. And Anaconda is the best team in either the Butte or Great Falls Stake.I think they beat Stevensville about twenty points or so. (Not much worse than the shelling BYU took here) Uh? Our team plays Anaconda this Thursday nite. I want to go, yet I don't. I told the boys if they beat them they would be entitled to the size 12 hats the Anaconda boys wear now. One of the referees (both from Pocatello)said, 'we aren't 'sposed to show any partiality, but we'd sure like to see St. Ignatius win. If we do, they may have to to put the roof back on the gym. Great Falls team lost their sportsmanship Saturday nite; the ref had to tell their coach off in no uncertain terms. And Thompson Falls won teh District tourney, in Polson, Saturday nite-over Libby-by 2 points.
Dad & Barry are getting over their colds. Cheryl Ann is going back to school today.
I'm washing, don't have a very big one.
Oh yes, I went back to Missoula Saturday morning to a Primary Preparation meeting, at 9:30 for officers. I went down with Blanche in the 'baby buggy' Dad says we are going to have one-Barry and I say 'oh no' I admit it would be so much cheaper, all the gas we use.
Well, yesterday I had a new class member-Bonnie. Next week Edna Rowley will be a member to. She lost her baby-she was in the hospital in Missoula-I just found out. The baby had been dead for some time. Even was decaying. She is giving the co-coordinator job up. I ask Dad if some thing had hurt her, why she was giving it up-no she wants to go in the genealogy class. He says several have talked about it-Learning it is a good class-not boasting, but like Geneva told me, accept compliments when due-but it is the members who have to do the work. How much are the tape recordings? I'm going to inquire and see if I can get a recorder.
Well, now it is about time for the kids to leave-I've been quite a while writing this-between clothes batches.
Hope you are feeling rested and well. Love you very much
Love Mom
